News Thomson Expands Infinity Product Line With Improved Performance and Longer Recording Times (7/5/2008) Thomson (Euronext Paris: 18453; NYSE: TMS) continues to advance its line of Thomson Grass Valley(tm) Infinity(tm) Digital Media Camcorders (DMC) with the introduction of the DMC 1000/20, a high performance camcorder for ENG and EFP applications. The new Infinity DMC 1000/20 offers expanded recording capacity over the REV PRO 35 enabled DMC 1000/10 by using the new Thomson Grass Valley REV PRO XP and ER media. With the DMC 1000/20 joining the DMC 1000/10, the DMC family has expanded to two camcorder models. With hundreds of orders, the DMC has been shipping since Q4 2007. The Infinity camcorder's companion deck, the Infinity Digital Media Recorder (DMR) also uses REV PRO XP and ER media to playback content shot with the DMC, increasing workflow efficiency with both REV and CompactFlash(r) media. "With the extension of the Infinity product-line we offer broadcasters and production professionals the choice of higher recording performance, more recording time and more efficient production workflows" said Jeff Rosica, Senior Vice President of Thomson's Broadcast & Professional Solutions within the Systems Division. The DMC 1000/20 includes the same robust feature set as the multi-award winning DMC 1000/10, including three 2/3-inch progressive 1920x1080 native HD Xensium(tm) CMOS imagers for acquisition in HD and SD, at 50Hz and 59.94Hz. Good to be used in any workflow worldwide. The camcorder also provides for solid-state recording via commercially available CompactFlash cards and a choice of MPEG-2 and JPEG 2000 compression profiles for HD and SD, including legacy DV compression for SD. The new DMC 1000/20 uses the Thomson Grass Valley eXtra Performance (XP) media which offers more than 50 minutes of HD recording at 75 Mbps (using JPEG 2000 compression); and the ability to offload data from the disk at extremely high speed (capable of transferring DV25 encoded material up to almost ten times real time). This allows users to perform sophisticated editing direct from the REV PRO media. The Extended Recording (ER) media gives users the ability to store more than 90 minutes of HD content at 75 Mbps --or more than four hours of SD content-- on a single 65 GB disk. It also supports dual-stream capability, with the ability to facilitate two streams simultaneously. Based on the latest-generation disk recording technology, and an improved rugged housing that protects data against environmental conditions, the new Thomson Grass Valley REV PRO media add extra capacity (from 35 GB to 40 GB and 65 GB) to an already generous data storage format. In an increasingly convergent world, Thomson supports the entire media ecosystem. Whether it's content creation, management, distribution and delivery, or consumption, our end-to-end solutions meet the business requirements of our customers-and let them launch new services to meet the expectations of increasingly sophisticated consumers. Pricing and Availability The new Infinity Digital Media Camcorder 1000/20 will be available in June 2008; the list price will be released in April.
