Panasonic P2 HD system gets support from Autodesk and Hitachi Kokusai Electric (12/5/2008)

Industry-Leading Companies to Provide P2 HD-Compatible Products and Production Tools

Autodesk and Hitachi Kokusai Electric are the newest professional video product suppliers to announce their support for Panasonic's solid-state P2 HD technology. Both companies indicated their intention to support P2 HD and unveiled P2 HD-compatible implementations of their products today at the 2008 National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) show in Las Vegas.

With the addition of Autodesk and Hitachi, a total of 29 industry-leading companies have publically announced their support, including production, storage, and peripheral systems compatible with Panasonic's P2 HD technology.

Autodesk, Inc., the world leader in 2-D and 3-D design software for manufacturing, construction, media, and entertainment markets, announced that they will support the DVCPRO HD codec in high-end editing, finishing, compositing, and design software suites, including Autodesk(r) Smoke(r) 2009, Autodesk Inferno(r) 2009, Autodesk Flame(r) 2009, and Autodesk Flint(r) 2009. DVCPRO HD is the primary codec used in all P2 HD products and enjoys widespread support in media production applications throughout the world. Autodesk product releases incorporating P2 HD support will begin in April.

Hitachi Kokusai Electric, which develops, manufactures, and distributes broadcast acquisition systems, will develop a P2 HD dockable recorder compatible with its own fully-digital, multistandard HD camera, model SK-HD1000. This P2 solid-state recorder will support both DVCPRO HD and 10-bit, AVC-Intra codecs, and is targeted for release in 2009. A working sample will be exhibited by Hitachi throughout NAB, at booth C5018.

Additional updates from P2 HD partners made at NAB include:

FUJIFILM, a major media supplier for the broadcasting industry, will start selling P2-compatible, solid-state memory cards (16-GB and 32-GB models) in the U.S. and European markets by the end of the year. These P2 cards are currently being exhibited in the FUJIFILM and Panasonic booths throughout NAB.

Harmonic's Rhozet(tm) announced that its Carbon Coder(tm) will provide real-time transcoding of HD content to AVC-Intra as a standard feature beginning this month.

FOR-A announced that its proprietary media management system called MediaConcierge(tm) will support both the DVCPRO HD and AVC-Intra codecs. This support will enable the system to ingest and manage all P2 HD content. MediaConcierge is demonstrated at NAB and expected to be released later this year.
